This novel has a feminist theme that stands out, and it is beautifully written, keeping the reader engaged throughout. The novel is about being broken, reclaiming your power, feminism, the fight for women's rights and autonomy and equality, politics, religion, and humanity. The book is a powerful story that's a melding of historical facts, fantasy, and faerie tales. It's a different type of "witches" story that strikes a chord deep down in the soul and opens the reader's eyes to things they haven't quite seen yet. The sisters, the struggle, the sacrifice, and the triumph are incredible. The novel is not an easy read since it's 500 pages, and there are trigger warnings for abortion, death of a primary character, racism, abuse, and torture. There's a sex scene that takes place barely "off-screen," but there's not a lot of foul language. The book has LGBTQ characters and a feminist theme.
